Caption: “Here is a 1961 picture of my husband, the Norwegian, making lefse. He kept adding flour to the warm mashed potatoes until he eventually ran out of flour. Anyone who knows how to make lefse will understand what a mess that can make, and no more has to be said. The picture tells all.”

Caption: “The April 17 contribution to your series on itinerant photographers, from Irish Lady of Baldwin, Wis., prompted me to send my picture to you. Our story was almost the same. My father was taking care of me and woke me from my nap to have my photo taken. I also wasn’t very happy. The year was 1930, and it’s the only baby picture I have of me — so thanks to Papa.
“Eleanor always wondered what it would be like to be 80. Now she knows.”
